Jimmy's Café

It has been some time since I last visited Jimmy's Cafe
so I was excited to have the opportunity to return.
Jimmy's Cafe is located
at 7700 Jefferson NE.
It has been at this location for the past twelve years,
but has its roots in the former Pizza Company
once located in the now defunct Winrock Mall.
Carlos Rocha has been the General Manager
for Jimmy's since the beginning.
Jimmy's can accommodate up to 100 guests
with a staff of about 26 full and part-time employees.
Once inside, you are greeted and seated
by an enthusiastic staff and a gallery of
Jimmy' pictures that range from
Jiminy Cricket and Jimmy Neutron to
Jimmy Carter, James Bond and more.
It is almost impossible
to concentrate on their extensive menu
and daily specials until you've identified
all of the Jimmies that you recognize.
Once you get to the menu|
it is nearly as impossible to pick an entree.
I'm partial to breakfast at Jimmy's which,
thankfully, is served all day,
and the choices are many and varied.
They range from your classic
bacon and egg breakfasts to omelettes,
skillets, burritos and more.
While the Huevos Rancheros seem to be
the continuing favorite,
I am partial to their breakfast quesadilla
with carne adovada.
Other meat choices include the usual
ham, bacon and sausage.
The best part of the breakfast quesadilla is
that there is always some leftover
to take home and savor again the next morning.
Their portions are more than generous.
Jimmy's has great coffee
and I really appreciate that they furnish you
with an insulated carafe so you can refill your cup
as you wish.
Often restaurants will offer quantity
rather than quality.
Not the case with Jimmy's.
Their food is always fresh and prepared
the way you want it.
I've gone on about breakfast at Jimmy's
but their lunch menu is just as diverse
and filled with sandwiches,
salads, burgers and more.
They are known for their Albuquerque Turkey
and California Turkey sandwiches and won an
Hot Plate Award for their BLT 'n A
(bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado)
deli sandwich.
All their deli sandwiches can be
ordered as half or whole
and come on a selection of breads.
Their Cream of Green Chile Chicken soup
is a crowd favorite. Lunchtime also offers
a selection of New Mexico favorites
and pizza in 10” and 16” sizes.
Come early to Jimmy's
as the crowds can be large
and parking is often at a premium.
On another note,
Jimmy's has revamped its catering menu
and it includes many choices and options.
Carlos said no catering is too big or too small –
they just hate to say no!
And as if all this isn't enough,
Jimmy's also delivers to a limited area
and their restaurant space if available
for banquets and parties.
Over the years Jimmy's Cafe
has won many awards.
